Blockchain Database for Sustainable Biofuels: A Case Study
RSB and Bioledger developed a case study on the potential of a blockchain database to support traceability of biofuel and its feedstocks and overcome the vulnerabilities identified by a recent fraud investigation in the Netherlands.
The proposed solution — a blockchain database that enables verifiable proof of origin, secure consignment creation, process simplification, audit efficiency, data integrity, and central governance — was prototyped and trialled with project partners to process a total of 1,927,906 litres of feedstock, accurately representing real-life commercial and operational processes in 2020. The project was made possible by a grant from the ISEAL Innovations Fund, which is supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
Executive Summary: Enabling FPIC Through Voluntary Standards
Since 2017, RSB and Equitable Origin (EO) have been working jointly on a project funded through the ISEAL Innovations Fund to research and develop a means of addressing the challenge of the meaningful implementation of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC). The key output from this project is draft framework for a tool that can be used to aid the verification process. The tool is multi-sided, facilitating a “co-audit” process that is jointly implemented by the assurance provider and by the affected Indigenous Peoples’ community.
This document lists all revisions to the RSB Principles & Criteria (RSB-STD-01-001), approved during the 2022 Assembly of Delegates. The revisions will be piloted during 2023, with feedback gathered during the pilot process to enable further clarifications.
Scenario Development Report on The Future of Sustainable Biofuels in Ethiopia
A group of stakeholder participants near Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2020 to develop a set of scenarios for the sustainable biofuels sector in Ethiopia. The workshop was specifically designed to be a collective participatory process attended by some of these stakeholders, as opposed to generating expert-led scenarios.
