Laxman Neupane PhD
Laxman Neupane PhD is a Resource Economist and development professional with over two decades of distinguished experience in economic policy, sustainable biomaterials, and renewable energy. His expertise encompasses the sustainability of bio-resources, with a specific focus on bio-gas, micro-hydropower, and biomaterial-based energy systems, as well as the development of associated bio-resource value chains. Dr. Neupane’s academic foundation includes a PhD in Resource Economics, supported by research fellowships from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) at University of Basel, Switzerland and a Master’s degree in Business and Economics from the United States. Dr Neupane contributed groundbreaking research on sustainability of ABS and Biotrade of the community forestry as PhD Program at University of Basel, Switzerland.
His career spans high-level government advisory roles, international research fellowships, and leadership positions in major development projects, yielding a unique synthesis of academic rigor and practical policy expertise. Dr. Neupane has a proven track record in driving sustainability strategy, having directly influenced provincial fiscal policies and development planning aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)and engaged reviewing global Joint Program of Sustainable Development Program of 6 countries. His core competencies include the sustainability of community forestry, sustainable and governance science, the Arabica coffee value chain, and the design of innovative solutions for renewable energy, community forestry, carbon accountings of biomass, municipal waste and advancing green MSMEs. As a longstanding Chamber 3 member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) since 2013, he actively contributes to global sustainability. Currently serving as the Executive Director of Baya Himalaya, he leads impactful research initiatives on sustainable aviation biofuel, municipal waste management, and bio-value chains, consistently contributing to the economic discourse in Nepal and the broader region through publications, conferences, and evidence-based policy recommendations. Dr. Neupane is a Nepali national residing in Nepal with his wife, Sapana Aryal, and their two children, Baanvi and Baneet.
