Add to your agenda! RSB kicks off Additionality Month webinar series with focus on Buyer’s perspective

.

RSB is pleased to announce the return of Additionality Month, a four-part webinar series of open-discussion meetings for members of the RSB Book & Claim Platform, dedicated to deepening understanding and engagement around one of the most crucial elements of the book and claim: additionality.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural series, this year’s Additionality Month will once again bring together leading experts and stakeholders from across RSB’s stakeholder community to explore how additional demand for sustainable fuels can lead to real-world positive impacts.

The RSB Book & Claim Manual defines additionality as the determination of whether an intervention, such as increased demand for a product or the creation of a new project, has an effect (i.e. increased impact) when compared to the baseline (i.e. absence of such demand or project).

In the context of book and claim, additionality refers to the capacity of increased demand for sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) or sustainable marine fuels (SMF) – unlocked by book and claim systems – to result in increased production and, consequently, greater fossil fuel displacement, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and a positive impact on climate change, along with broader sustainability benefits. The Greenhouse Gas Protocol defines additionality as a criterion for assessing whether a project has resulted in greenhouse gas emission reductions or removals in addition to what would have occurred in the project’s absence.

Date: Wednesday, 4 June 2025
Time: 3:00 PM UK | 4:00 PM CET | 10:00 AM ET

The series will begin with a session exploring the Buyer’s Perspective, featuring insights on how purchasers of sustainable fuels can play a meaningful role in driving additionality through their procurement strategies. Take a look at the agenda below.

This interactive session will allow participants to exchange views, share experiences, and shape the evolving understanding of how additionality can be operationalised in RSB’s Book & Claim System.

The series will continue over the coming weeks with three additional sessions:

Each meeting will offer a unique viewpoint on how different actors can contribute to, and benefit from, a more robust and credible approach to additionality.

Access to the Additionality Month webinar series is exclusive to members of the RSB Book & Claim Platform. The platform is a dedicated space for RSB members to collaborate, access guidance, and stay at the forefront of developments in book and claim.

Joining the platform not only provides access to Additionality Month but also offers the opportunity to connect with a growing network of sustainability leaders committed to advancing the transition to a sustainable bioeconomy.
