Over 100 retirement statements issued on RSB’s Book & Claim Registry

RSB has reached a milestone of 100 retirement statements issued through its RSB Book & Claim Registry – a significant step toward accelerating ‘book and claim’ as an in-sector solution to the challenge of decarbonising sectors across the world.

The retirements are an important milestone in the RSB Book & Claim System, highlighting the end-user’s commitment to an insetting solution representing almost 3,000 tonnes of neat SAF and reducing travel emissions by over 11,000 tonnes of CO 2 equivalent emissions. This is equivalent to avoiding approximately 164 one-way flights between New York City and London on a Boeing 767 jet with a capacity of 278 passengers.

The RSB Book & Claim Registry

The RSB Registry forms part of the RSB Book & Claim System – a credible and effective chain-of-custody mechanism that aims to expand the outreach of sustainable fuels and accelerate the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors, such as aviation and shipping.

As a secure digital application, the RSB Book & Claim Registry allows suppliers of a sustainably-certified fuel to decouple the sustainability attributes from the physical product and register it as a BCU (Book & Claim Unit). The BCU can then be transferred to any buyer, anywhere in the world – independent of the physical product – and the RSB Registry will track the transfer of these BCUs, issuing retirement statements to organisations who want to make credible sustainability claims.

The RSB Registry serves organisations entering the world of book and claim. Rather than competing with other independent registries, the RSB Registry will support and work with these initiatives; acting as a dynamic learning environment and fostering a registry ecosystem that further mitigates the risk of double counting.

100 Retirement Statements

The issuance of more than 100 retirement statements is a massive milestone. To put it into context, issuing 100 retirement statements is equivalent to avoiding approximately 164 one-way flights between New York City and London on a Boeing 767 jet with a capacity of 278 passengers.

This achievement is a testament to the promise of book and claim as a solution to the challenge of decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors and the vital role that the RSB Registry plays in this process.
