RSB EU RED Fuel Certification

RSB has developed the most robust and credible standard for the production of fuels in the European Union (EU) – ensuring that fuel production can demonstrate real greenhouse gas emission reductions, while not contributing to issues like deforestation, global hunger and ecological breakdown.

RSB’s EU RED Fuel Certification describes how to produce biofuels in a way that enhances long-term environmental and social outcomes and to guarantee compliance with the EU sustainability criteria and traceability requirements for biofuels and bioliquids. It is composed of a variety of procedures and methodologies that describe how to produce, trade and use bio-based fuels.

Working with the RSB Principles & Criteria

When it comes to working with RSB’s sustainability framework, not every document applies to every producer. By completing the self-risk assessment and screening exercises before the certification process, your context-specific sustainability requirements will be set out.

Depending on your certification scope and the type of operator you are, you will only need to work with some of these documents. The specific sustainability requirements that apply to your operation will be clarified when you complete your screening exercise.

Report required under Directive 2018/2001/EC

The EU Commission has recognised RSB EU RED for demonstrating compliance with the sustainability criteria under Directive 2018/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council.

Under Directive 2018/2001/EC, RSB is required to submit an annual activity report, describing RSB’s assurance mechanisms to ensure audit consistency and rigour, which shows how RSB works to involve stakeholders, and which supports market uptake of the scheme.
