Public Consultations

The RSB welcomes public comment as part of the formal process for the continued development of our Standard.

As new technology, research and sustainability issues emerge, the RSB works with its stakeholders and members to adapt the RSB Standard.

The RSB is a full member of the ISEAL alliance and has a formal process for how the RSB Standard is developed, adapted and reviewed by its members. All major modifications require a formal public consultation, in line with the ISEAL Codes of Good Practice, and approval by RSB members.

Current Consultations

The RSB is currently revising its RSB Standard for the Certification of Bio-products that is a supplement to the RSB Principles & Criteria. It enables producers of bio-products to receive RSB certification and demonstrate responsible practices throughout the supply chain.

The RSB Secretariat has prepared a draft revision of the standard based on all the comments that were submitted during the first public consultation phase (May 25th to July 25th 2017).

The proposed revisions include:

  • A new section on GHG emission reduction
  • Clarifications on bio-based (carbon) content thresholds
  • The option to use a mass balance system for the bio-based input to processes and supply chains
  • Specifications for communication and claims

You can access the draft revision of the standard here

Your input is vital to the completion of the revision and we would so appreciate your participation in the second round of the consultation process.

To do so please include your comments in the feedback form and send it back to elena.schmidt@rsb.org by September 10th 2017.
