Jill Kauffman Johnson

Director

Jill Kauffman Johnson is the Vice President of Global Sustainability and External Affairs at TerraVia (formerly Solazyme). TerraVia is a next-generation food, nutrition and specialty ingredients company that harnesses the power of algae. She leads strategy and execution of TerraVia’s sustainability agenda, stakeholder engagement, and related public policy activities to support and enhance the company’s mission to make products that are better for people and the planet.

Prior to TerraVia, Jill was with California Environmental Associates (CEA) and founded the Sustainable Business Practice working with clients to assess their operations to help green supply chains, improve operational efficiency, and reduce costs. She was the co-founder and Executive Director of the non-profit, Chemical Strategies Partnership. Jill also helped to guide the launch of numerous non-profit organisations including ClimateWorks Foundation, Trust for Conservation Innovation, Institute for Industrial Productivity, Global Buildings Performance Network, and the Roots of Change (ROC) Fund.

Prior to joining CEA, Jill was the founding Director of the Pacific Coast Regional Office of the Ocean Conservancy (formerly the Center for Marine Conservation). She also served as a market analyst for recycled plastic at the US Environmental Protection Agency. She holds a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard University and a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University.
