RSB EU RED Re-Recognised by the European Commission

The RSB is pleased to announce its re-recognition by the European Commission. The decision was published by the Commission on 9 August 2016 in the Official Journal of the European Union and is valid for 5 years after the date it came into force. The EU Commission recognises the ‘Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials EU RED’ for demonstrating compliance with the sustainability criteria under Directives 98/70/EC and 2009/28/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council.

In order to receive public support or count towards mandatory national renewable energy targets, biofuels and bioliquids used in the EU must comply with EU’s sustainability criteria. Being certified under RSB EU RED is one way for companies to demonstrate that their biofuels comply with these sustainability criteria. The RSB is committed to maintaining the most credible and comprehensive standards for the global sustainable production, conversion and use of biomass.

The RSB’s upcoming  Assembly of Delegates meeting in Hanoi, Vietnam (8-9 November) will again bring together members, certified operators, global brands and NGO’s to discuss, debate and continue the RSB’s leadership in sustainability. This year’s programme will include a workshop hosted by WWF and the RSB with a focus on sustainability in the aviation sector.
